About the Open DAW.
Situated in Brunswick Place in the Methodist Church (see the map) opposite the Lawn and our famous Black Swans, The Open DAW is the Community Information centre for Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Cofton and Holcombe. It enables people in the community to access information about local organisations, clubs, agencies and events. There are regular visits by a variety of agency representatives who give free advice to anyone "dropping-in" to see them. Refreshments are available in the Vestibule area along with a table sale of books. Annually we provide an Agency Day when a number of Agency representatives make themselves available.
This centre was established as a registered charity in June 2005. It is managed by a small number of Trustees and a Coordinator, with volunteer helpers. Dawlish Community Information Centre seems a long winded title, so following a community competition,a lady from the local Blind Club came up with "The Open DAW" D = Dawlish, A= Agencies W = social welfare aspect of our work.
Friends of the Open DAW was set up to help fund the work of The Open DAW, which is independent of any government or council funding. In particular, the Friends scheme plays a major part in paying the salary of the Coordinator. The centre enjoys the support of the Methodist Church who ask no hire fee for the use of the premises but only a donation towards heating, lighting and general maintenance.
Donations We welcome any donations to help us maintain the centre as a completely independent facility for the Dawlish community. You are able to make donations to The Open DAW via the Charity Giving site below and also for any Open DAW sponsored event.
